Jora Women Group

Theme:Food security and Women Empowerment

Duration: 3 weeks

SHORT DESCRIPTION:The women group comprises of 50 Members.Jora Village is located in Coastal region in Taita-Taveta county next to Kasigau hill one of the Taita Hills that are part of the Eastern Mountain covering a 1000 kmsq from Kenya to Tanzania. It is also World War historical site where British army and German had the battle fight.The main economic activities are agriculture and mining of precious stones. However, the area receives minimal rainfall which makes it hard for sustainable agriculture to take place.Women focus on food security and men in mining. 

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES: Building of women store house, marketing and weaving baskets, conservation of vegetation and monitoring white eye bird, sharing ideas with the locals, teaching primary school, home visit and meeting other local groups for development issues.

ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will be accommodated in women group premises.
